Dehooker

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

A de-hooker is an essential piece of gear that no shark fisherman should be without when targeting any species of shark. All sharks have some pretty intimidating teeth that you don’t want to get too close to.

Some people are so scared of sharks that they don’t even remove their hooks, should they catch one. Hook removal need not be so complicated.

All you have to do is get a dehooker. It’s a simple little tool with an ‘S’ shape at the end that is made for removing hooks from fish.

You simply slide this tool down the leader untill it reaches the bend in the hook, then give it a forcefull push and the hook should loosen up.

If your using circle hooks you can put the tool on the hook and twist the handle of the tool very quickly with a snapping motion to quickly remove even the most stubborn circles.
